Trek 9 Days Visit Desert From Mahamid

di Naji – Azmaila – (4h) After a good breakfast, Sidi Naji for a 3 hour walk across clay plates alternating with small dunes to Azmaila. Lunch under the tamarisk in the middle of dunes…. Dinner and overnight in tents or under the stars.

Azmaila – Erg Zahar (3h) Departure to the big dunes of Erg Zahar. This will be a single step 5h will allow us to establish ourselves at the foot of dunes, pitching tents and eat for lunch mid-day… the afternoon, there will not walk this will be free time to enjoy being in the big dunes to explore, climb and in the evening watch the sunset from the top of the highest…. Return to camp by the fire, preparing the meals and tajine convivial evening…night in a tent or under the stars.

The fourth day is dedicated to crossing the large dunes of Erg Zahar on the way to Erg Smar, an ancient, abandoned village now buried in sand due to drought. Lunch is served under tamarisk trees, after which the group continues through smaller dunes to Erg Sedra, where camp is established for the night.

On the fifth day, the trek leads to Chegaga, the largest dune region in the area, with peaks rising up to 300 meters. Here, the nomadic lifestyle is experienced firsthand, and the group has the opportunity to watch a breathtaking sunset over the endless waves of dunes. Dinner and overnight stay take place in a camp set at the foot of the great dunes.

The sixth day consists of a shorter morning walk with a rest stop at Maihat Assolah, followed by a journey to the Sacred Oasis of Oum Lâalag. The day concludes with an overnight camp at Oued Laatache, also known as the Wadi of Thirst.

On the seventh day, the trek continues through diverse desert landscapes, with opportunities to observe unique desert plants. After reaching Telhatine around midday, lunch and rest take place near a well before continuing in the afternoon towards Kraat Jemal. Camp is set up here, and the night is spent under the stars.

The eighth day begins with a departure from Kraat Jemal towards Bertham. The group first crosses the stone desert in about an hour and a half, pausing for lunch under the shade of an acacia tree. The journey continues through Wadi Naam, where water supplies are replenished and camels are watered at a well. The day ends with camp set up in Bertham for a well-deserved rest.

Finally, on the ninth day, after an early breakfast, camp is broken, and camels are loaded for a gentle three-hour walk back to M’hamid. Upon arrival, lunch is served at the fixed bivouac, followed by free time in the afternoon to stroll through the village or relax in a traditional steam bath. The adventure concludes with a farewell dinner and a convivial final evening at the M’hamid bivouac.
