The journey begins around 9:00 a.m. with a departure from M’hamid toward the great dunes of Erg Zahar. After about two hours of riding, the group stops for a lunch break beneath a shady tree in Ras Nekhale, a haven that beautifully reflects the spirit of eco-tourism. A refreshing cup of traditional nomad tea follows, giving energy for the afternoon. The trek continues with another three hours of riding and walking through dunes and desert landscapes, before reaching Sidi Naji, a shrine once revered by nomadic tribes. Here, camp is set up for the night, with dinner served under the starlit sky.
After breakfast, luggage is loaded onto the camels and the caravan sets off into the heart of the desert. A three-hour ride across vast landscapes leads to a lunch stop in the solitude of the dunes, “somewhere in the middle of nowhere.” The afternoon continues with another three hours of walking, bringing the group to the majestic dunes of Erg Zahar. Camp is set among these towering sands, where dinner is enjoyed before spending the night either under the stars or in tents.
After admiring a spectacular sunrise over the dunes of Erg Zahar and enjoying breakfast, the trek continues toward Lahdebate. The morning consists of about three hours of riding and hiking before pausing for lunch beneath the shade of a large tamarisk tree. In the afternoon, the group resumes the journey with a three-and-a-half-hour hike to reach Oued Naam, where a mobile camp is prepared for dinner and another night in the desert.
On the final morning, camp is packed after breakfast and the group heads toward Mezouaria, walking for about two hours. Lunch is taken near the small dunes, followed by a gentle return to M’hamid in the afternoon. Upon arrival, everyone settles into the fixed bivouac to enjoy a shower, a well-deserved evening meal, and a convivial final night in the comfort of the camp.
