Itinerary

The adventure begins with an early wake-up and breakfast under the large bivouac tent. After preparing the tents and loading the camels, the caravan departs at 9:00 a.m. A two-hour walk leads to the palm grove, where lunch is served in the shade. After some rest, the journey continues for about three more hours across dunes and desert landscapes before reaching Sidi Naji, home to the mausoleum of the Marabout of the Nouaji tribe. Here, camp is set up for the first night under the desert sky.

After breakfast, the trek leaves Sidi Naji behind and continues toward Erg Zahar. Around midday, a picnic is taken beneath the tamarisk trees. The group then crosses wide stretches of dunes for about two more hours before arriving at the great dunes of Erg Zahar. Dinner is prepared at camp, and the night is spent in tents or under the stars.

The day begins with a walk across the vast dunes of Erg Zahar, heading toward Erg Smar, an ancient village abandoned and buried in sand after years of drought. Lunch is enjoyed under the tamarisk trees before continuing through smaller dunes in the afternoon to reach Erg Sedra. Here, camp is set up for the night.

The trek continues toward Chegaga, the largest dune region in the area. Along the way, the group experiences the nomadic lifestyle and the immensity of dunes rising as high as 300 meters. From the top, breathtaking views stretch endlessly in all directions. After watching the sun set over the waves of golden sand, everyone returns to camp at the foot of the dunes for dinner and an overnight stay in tents.

This stage begins with a shorter morning walk and a rest at Maihat Assolah before continuing to the Sacred Oasis of Oum Lâalag. The day ends with camp set at Oued Laatache, also known as the Wadi of Thirst, where the group enjoys dinner and a night of rest.

The caravan sets off across a landscape rich with desert plants. By midday, the group arrives at Telhatine, where lunch and rest are taken near a well. In the afternoon, the journey continues toward Kraat Jemal, where camp is set up for another magical night under the stars.

Leaving Kraat Jemal behind, the group crosses the stone desert during a one-and-a-half-hour walk before stopping for lunch beneath the shade of an acacia tree. The journey then continues through Wadi Naam, where water supplies are replenished and the camels are watered at a well. After another hour’s walk, the caravan reaches Bertham, where camp is established for the night.

On the final day, after breakfast and breaking camp, the camels are loaded for a gentle three-hour walk back to M’hamid. Lunch is served at the fixed bivouac, followed by free time to settle into tents, stroll through the village, or relax in a traditional steam bath. The adventure concludes with a festive evening at the M’hamid bivouac, sharing a final meal and stories of the journey.
